ROAST Editorial

Coffee Experts

Yirgacheffe is a small region in southern Ethiopia that has become synonymous with quality African coffee. Here, at altitudes of 1,700-2,200 meters, grows coffee with a unique floral-citrus profile.

Terroir

The region's unique microclimate — abundant rainfall, rich volcanic soils, and high humidity — creates ideal conditions for growing arabica. Local farmers have cultivated coffee using traditional methods for centuries.

Flavor Profile

Classic Yirgacheffe features bright floral aromas with notes of jasmine and bergamot. The taste reveals lemon, peach, and tea-like sweetness. The finish is long and elegant.

Processing

Most lots from Yirgacheffe are washed, which emphasizes acidity and cup clarity. However, natural processed lots with more fruity and fermented character are becoming increasingly popular.

Brewing Recommendations

Yirgacheffe is best expressed through filter methods: V60, Chemex, or Aeropress. Recommended grind — medium, water temperature — 92-94°C.
